Living in London

Hi everyone!  It has been almost two months since I landed on English soil.  I thought I should join the blogging world to share my adventures with friends and family.  I got here on February 4th…and since then I’ve had visitors every weekend, except for one.  For those of you that still haven’t made it across the pond, what are you waiting for?

London is a fascinating city.  Locals like their pubs, and are pissed (drunk) by 8pm, which makes it okay for them to close by 11pm!  Only here can you randomly sit next to someone at an internet cafe who has travelled to the same city on the other side of the world where you once lived.  A walk down a busy street means hearing a smattering of at least three different languages.  It reminds me of New York, but seems to be more laid back and more expensive, oddly enough.  I went to a movie the other night, £9!  That’s what, 18 bucks??  It’s crazy, I’m trying to stop converting every time I buy something.  It’s quite easy to burn some serious cash here, so if anyone is in a spending mood, London is the place to be!

I’ve made it to one musical thus far, The Far Pavillions, which was still in preview stages when I went.  The weather seems to be a daily topic of discussion here and not usually of the positive kind…although I have to admit it’s starting to feel a lot like Spring.  It has only rained twice this past week, must be a record of some sort.  Rarely does a day go by where there isn’t at least a thin cloud cover.

My flat is tiny…probably a third of the size of my condo in Dallas, but I’m okay with it so far.  We’ll see how I feel after I get my shipment of 24 boxes (yes, you read that right, so I’m not a light packer) on Tuesday!  The hardest part was figuring out how to use the boiler, which amazingly is still  intact.  It’s about a ten minute walk to the nearest tube station, so I’m guaranteed at least a one mile walk every day…part of the reason I haven’t joined a gym yet.

My time is up.  More to come later this week….

Cheerio Cuz! How are them limey blokes carryin’ on in ol’ London Town, eh? Still swooning over men with British accents or do the bad teeth turn you off? Seriously, I’m dying to know what stereotypes are true and what weird quirky things you encountered that you never expected! I hope to visit you soon…like as soon as I start making money!
